“I have had sich a great experience seeing Dr. Bergin. When other offices have told me I just had muscle damage or the only thing they could do for me was give shots, he said he had others ways to manage my pain and numbness, along with improving mobility. And he was right! I feel so much better! With such friendly staff and welcoming office environment, it makes for an amazing experience. I'll definitely continue seeing him!”

Quick summary
ChiroMed does not diagnose ADHD, does not treat ADHD and does not replace psychiatric or pediatric care. What Dr. Justin Bergin offers families is support for the things around it: sleep quality, digestive health, nutrition and nervous system function.
A healthy spine is essential for a properly functioning nervous system. Functional medicine and nutritional counselling are used to support the gut brain axis, alongside your prescribing clinician.
Understanding ADHD
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition diagnosed by qualified medical and mental health clinicians, usually through a structured evaluation rather than a single test. Nothing offered here diagnoses it, treats it or replaces that care. The focus is the surrounding health picture that affects how a person functions day to day.
There is no chiropractic test for ADHD, no laboratory panel that diagnoses it and no adjustment that treats it. Anyone telling you otherwise is overselling.
Sleep, blood sugar, digestive health and nutrition do affect attention, mood and energy in everybody, diagnosis or no diagnosis. Those things do not cause ADHD, and working on them does not remove it.
The practice holds that a healthy spine is essential for a properly functioning nervous system. Functional medicine and nutritional counselling are used here to support the gut brain axis.
How it works
Consultation and history first
A detailed conversation covers sleep, eating, digestion, energy and physical symptoms, plus what your prescribing clinician already has in place. Nothing is started before that picture is complete.
Testing only where the history points
Rather than guessing at supplements, testing looks at nutrient status, blood sugar handling and markers of inflammation. You are told what a test would change before it is ordered.
One change at a time
Work on diet, digestive health and gentle spinal care is introduced one change at a time, so you can tell what helped. None of it diagnoses or treats ADHD.
What do families already have in place when they get here?
Families arrive here having already done the hard part. There has been an assessment, there is a diagnosis, and there is usually a prescribing clinician managing it.
They are not looking for a second opinion on any of that.
So what is left to work on?
They want help with everything else. A child who cannot get to sleep. An adult whose concentration collapses every afternoon.
A stomach that is always unsettled. A diet that has narrowed to five foods. Those things are real and measurable, and a functional and chiropractic practice can look at them.
Where does Dr. Bergin draw the line?
Dr. Justin Bergin has been in practice for 22 years and is clear about the limits. He will not tell you to change a medication, and he will not tell you your pediatrician or psychiatrist has it wrong.
He will look at sleep, digestion, nutrition and nervous system function, and tell you honestly whether there is anything worth working on. Consultations run at both offices.
Independent background: About ADHD, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Symptoms
Most people recognize their own version somewhere in this list. Each one maps to a specific finding the examination checks for.
- Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
- Energy crashes in the afternoon
- Digestive discomfort after meals
- A very narrow range of accepted foods
- Irritability when a meal is missed
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Restlessness that worsens when tired
- Frequent headaches
- Strong cravings for sugar or refined carbohydrate
Common causes
Poor sleep quality
Attention, mood and impulse control are all worse on broken sleep, in anyone. Sleep is usually the easiest thing to change, so it is the first thing we ask about in detail.
Blood sugar swings through the day
A breakfast of refined carbohydrate followed by a mid-morning crash produces a recognizable pattern of energy and mood. That does not cause ADHD. It does make the day harder than it needs to be.
Digestive symptoms and the gut brain axis
Bloating, reflux, constipation and food reactions are common in this group and worth investigating on their own merit. The gut and the nervous system communicate continuously, so we look at both.
Nutritional gaps from a restricted diet
Narrow eating is common in families managing ADHD, sometimes related to appetite and sometimes to texture. Where intake is genuinely limited, testing can show whether that has become a measurable gap.
How we treat ADHD in Lakeland and The Villages
Support here means three things. Testing that shows what is going on with nutrition, blood sugar and inflammation. Work on digestive health and the gut brain axis. Gentle chiropractic care for nervous system function.
None of it diagnoses or treats ADHD, and all of it runs alongside your prescribing clinician.
Functional testing before anyone changes anything
Rather than guessing at supplements, testing looks at nutrient status, blood sugar handling and markers of inflammation.
If the results are unremarkable we will tell you that plainly and recommend nothing. Testing is part of the cash-pay functional line.
laboratory testing that looks at nutrient status, blood sugar and inflammation
Gut health and the gut brain axis
Where digestive symptoms are present they are worth addressing for their own sake. The work covers diet, digestive function and, where indicated, targeted nutritional support.
The aim is to make daily life more comfortable. It is not to change a diagnosis.
Gentle chiropractic care for nervous system function
The practice's position is that a healthy spine is essential for a properly functioning nervous system.
Care is gentle and appropriate to age, and it is offered for spinal health and comfort. No claim is made here about attention, behavior or medication.

What recovery usually looks like
Consultation and history Your first visit
A detailed conversation about sleep, eating, digestion, energy and physical symptoms, plus what your prescribing clinician already has in place. Nothing is started before that picture is complete.
Testing, then working through the findings Through the plan
Testing is recommended only where the history points somewhere specific, and you are told what it would change before it is ordered. Changes are then introduced one at a time so you can tell what helped.
Review and honest conclusion Ongoing
If the changes have helped how your family functions, we keep going. If they have not, we stop, rather than add another supplement to a list that is not working.
When to seek care sooner
What to try at home first: protect sleep before anything else, with a consistent bedtime and screens out of the bedroom. Start the day with a breakfast that contains protein.
Keep a two-week log of sleep, meals, digestive symptoms and the hardest part of each day. Patterns show up in writing that nobody notices in the moment.
See a medical or mental health clinician rather than starting here if attention or behavior concerns have never been formally assessed. Do the same if mood or behavior has changed markedly, if weight or growth is falling away, or if sleep problems are severe.
Two things need somebody other than us. Any thought of self-harm, in you or in your child, needs urgent medical help the same day, through your clinician or an emergency department. Any question about a prescribed medication, including changing a dose or stopping it, belongs with the person who prescribed it.
Cost, insurance and financing
Cost depends on how much investigation the history actually justifies. Some families need a consultation and a set of practical changes. Others need testing before anyone can sensibly recommend anything.
The one published price
Consultation, Exam, X-Rays (If Needed) & Report of Findings: Only $47
What affects the cost
- Whether laboratory testing is indicated
- How many areas the history points to
- Whether nutritional support is part of the plan
- How often review visits are useful
What a course includes
- The consultation and the written summary of findings
- A clear explanation of what each recommendation is for
- An honest recommendation of nothing, where nothing is warranted
Payment:
Functional medicine here, including testing and nutritional work, is self-pay at both offices. If chiropractic care is part of your plan, that portion can be billed to insurance, and our team verifies your benefits first.
Payment plans are available for self-pay care. New patients start with a consultation, exam, x-rays if needed and report of findings for only $47.

What is Dr. Bergin's role here, and what is not?
Dr. Justin Bergin, DC is 22 years into practice and keeps his role here deliberately narrow. He does not diagnose ADHD, he does not treat it, and he will not comment on a medication decision that belongs to your prescriber.
What he does is look carefully at sleep, nutrition, digestion and spinal health. Nobody here will contradict your pediatrician. Medically reviewed by Dr. Justin Bergin, DC.

ADHD in recent research
These sources are independent of this practice and none of them endorses it. They are listed so the reasoning behind the care can be checked rather than taken on trust.
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
The federal reference on how ADHD is defined, assessed and managed, which marks where formal diagnosis belongs and where our supportive care stops.
- Diet and ADHD, Reviewing the Evidence: A Systematic Review of Meta-Analyses of Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Trials Evaluating the Efficacy of Diet Interventions on the Behavior of Children with ADHD
Pooled trial data showing dietary change produces small average effects on ADHD behavior, which is why we treat nutrition as a contributing factor and nothing more.
- Sleep parameters and problems in adolescents with and without ADHD: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Finds adolescents with ADHD sleep less and later than their peers, which is why sleep is one of the everyday factors we ask about.
Options compared, honestly
This is treated very differently depending on who you walk in to see. Here is the full set, including the options this practice does not provide.
| Option | What it is | Typically considered when | Invasive? | Offered at ChiroMed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Functional laboratory testing Our approach | Testing of nutrient status, blood sugar handling and inflammation markers | Diet is restricted or digestive symptoms are present | No | Yes |
| Nutritional counselling and gut health work | Dietary and digestive support guided by history and testing | Bloating, reflux, constipation or a very narrow diet | No | Yes |
| Gentle chiropractic care | Age-appropriate manual care for the spine and nervous system | Neck tension, posture or spinal discomfort are also present | No | Yes |
| Diagnostic evaluation for ADHD | A structured clinical evaluation across settings and reporters | Attention, activity or impulse concerns have not yet been assessed | No | Not performed here. Appropriate as the starting point, and it belongs with a pediatrician, psychiatrist or psychologist. |
| Prescription medication for ADHD | Stimulant or non-stimulant medication managed by a prescriber | A prescribing clinician has recommended it | No | Not performed here. Appropriate when a prescribing clinician judges it the right course, and nothing here replaces or adjusts it. |
Diagnosis and medication belong with your medical or mental health clinician. What is offered here sits beside that. If you have not yet had a proper evaluation, getting one is the advice you will be given.

ADHD questions

Do you diagnose ADHD?
No. ADHD is diagnosed by pediatricians, psychiatrists and psychologists through a structured evaluation across more than one setting. There is no chiropractic examination and no laboratory panel that diagnoses it. If nobody has assessed you or your child yet, that is the first step and it is not taken here.
Do you treat ADHD, or replace medication?
No to both. Nothing offered here treats ADHD and nothing here is a substitute for care from your prescribing clinician. We will not recommend reducing, stopping or changing a medication. That conversation belongs entirely with the person who prescribed it.
What is the difference between a regular doctor and a functional medicine doctor?
A conventional visit is usually organized around diagnosing and managing a named condition. Functional work is organized around the systems underneath: digestion, nutrition, blood sugar, inflammation and sleep. It is a complement to medical care, not a replacement for it, and it does not diagnose.
Are holistic doctors the same as naturopathic doctors?
No. This practice is led by a Doctor of Chiropractic and carries no naturopathic licensure of any kind. Holistic simply describes an approach that looks at the whole picture. It is not a license, and you should always ask any provider which license they actually hold.
What does gut health have to do with attention and mood?
The gut and the nervous system communicate constantly. Digestive symptoms, restricted eating and blood sugar swings all affect how anyone feels and functions through a day. We work on those because they are real and measurable. Doing so does not change a diagnosis.
Will insurance pay for a functional medicine doctor?
Usually not. Functional medicine here is self-pay. Chiropractic care is billed to insurance, and our team verifies those benefits first. The front desk will tell you which part of your plan is which before you commit.
