Tendons, ligaments and worn joints behave differently from spines, so they get their own care here. We use three things: Omniwave acoustic wave therapy, knee decompression and hands-on soft tissue work. They are for shoulders, knees, hips and heels that have hurt for months rather than days. Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy at ChiroMed is delivered with an Omniwave unit. Pressure waves are applied to tendon, ligament and joint tissue that has stopped settling on its own. The aim is better blood flow to the area, which supports the body's own repair response. We use it for rotator cuff and frozen shoulder problems, hip and heel pain, and worn knees. Knee Decompression
Knee decompression applies controlled traction across the joint, which lowers the friction between surfaces that have worn thin. It suits people with long-standing knee pain or osteoarthritis who have been told replacement is next. Most of them want to know what non-surgical care can still do first. Soft Tissue Therapy
Soft tissue therapy is the hands-on half of joint recovery. It releases tight muscle, works on scar tissue, and gets the layers of tissue moving over each other again after an injury. Active Release Technique and Graston instrument-assisted work are both used here. It is what makes an adjustment or a course of shockwave hold instead of fading. How much does a session of shockwave therapy cost?
We do not publish a per-session figure, because almost nobody buys a single session. Acoustic wave therapy is given as a course. How long that course runs depends on the joint, how long it has been sore, and what else is in your plan. You get a written quote for the whole course before anything starts. Payment plans are available for self-pay care.
Is there any downside to shockwave therapy?
Yes. Treated tissue can feel sore or bruised for a day or two. We cannot treat over an active infection, an open wound or a tumour site. It is also not for patients on certain blood thinners, or with a clotting disorder. It also does not suit every joint. Dr. Bergin checks all of this at your examination and will tell you if it is not right for you.
Will insurance pay for shockwave therapy?
Coverage varies by carrier, and some services may only qualify as cash-pay. This care is self-pay. Medicare coverage varies by plan and by service, and our front desk will tell you exactly what applies before you commit to anything.
Is shockwave therapy worth the money?
That depends on what you are comparing it with. Say a tendon or a joint has not responded to rest, anti-inflammatories and physical therapy. Your other choices are an injection, a surgical opinion, or living with it. Acoustic wave therapy is non-invasive, needs no downtime, and you can stop at any point. If your examination suggests it will not help, we will tell you before you spend anything.
What type of doctor is best for knee pain?
It depends on what is causing it. A knee that locks, gives way or swells after an injury needs an orthopedic assessment and a scan. A knee that has ached for years, is stiff in the morning and hurts on stairs is usually worn and overloaded. That is worth trying non-surgical care for first. Look for someone who examines your hip and your foot as well as your knee. Look for someone who will tell you when surgery is the honest answer.
Does Medicare cover non-surgical knee treatment?
Coverage varies by plan and by service. It is different for chiropractic manipulation, for therapy delivered by a device, and for supervised exercise, and supplement plans differ again. Our front desk will tell you exactly what applies to your plan before you commit to anything. It is the first question most of our Lady Lake patients ask.
