What we treat

Conditions We Treat at ChiroMed Wellness Centers

Twenty one conditions, grouped by body region and by system, with an honest note on each about what we do and where we refer.

  • 21 conditions
  • Non-surgical, drug free
  • 22 years in practice
  • $47 new-patient exam

At your first visit we work out which of three groups your problem falls into. Some problems are mechanical: a joint that has stopped moving, a disc under load, a tendon that never finished healing, a pelvic floor that lost its timing. Those are what this practice was built for, and we treat them without surgery and without prescriptions.

Some problems are medical first: a fracture, an infection, a suspected tumour, weakness that is getting worse, uncontrolled blood sugar, anything that changed suddenly and severely. Those get referred right away, and nobody sells you a course of care on the way out.

Many other people arrive with a condition their physician has already diagnosed and is already managing. They want help with the parts that food, movement, sleep and hands-on care actually influence. That work runs alongside their doctor rather than instead of them, and every page where it applies spells that out.

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC has been in practice for 22 years and does that sorting himself at both offices. If your problem is not one for this practice, you will be told at the first visit rather than at the fifth.

Below, the conditions are grouped by where it hurts, what the nerve is doing, and what the rest of the body is doing underneath. Every entry links to a page that says what care can change, what it cannot, and which options we do not offer.

Independent background on how pain is described and assessed: Pain, MedlinePlus (U.S. National Library of Medicine).

Every condition below has its own page. Each page says what the problem is, what we do about it, what we do not do, and when to see somebody else. Return to an overview of the practice and its two Florida offices if you would rather start there.

Spine and disc

Joints and soft tissue

Nerve and nerve pain

Metabolic and functional

Pelvic and sexual health

Bladder and sexual problems are the two people delay longest, and they are among the most treatable. For independent background, the Urology Care Foundation publishes a plain-language index of urologic conditions covering bladder and sexual health.

What We Refer Out

Some problems need a physician, and in some cases an emergency department, before anybody starts a plan of care.

Fractures, infections, suspected tumours, inflammatory arthritis, uncontrolled blood sugar, anything with weakness that is getting worse or a change in bowel or bladder control, and anything that arrived suddenly and severely. Dr. Justin Bergin, DC screens for all of that at every new examination, and he tells you what he finds.

Several of the conditions above are supported here rather than treated here. That is a real difference and we say which is which on the pages where it applies. Diagnosis and prescribing stay with your physician. What we add is the mechanical, nutritional and rehabilitative work that no prescription does for you.

Common questions

Conditions questions

By examining you before proposing anything. The examination separates mechanical problems, which are what this practice treats, from medical problems that need a physician first. You are told which category you fall into at the first visit, in writing, with the reasoning explained.

No referral is needed for any condition listed here. A diagnosis from elsewhere is useful background and it is not a requirement. Two exceptions are worth naming: attention and behavior concerns should be formally assessed by a qualified clinician first, and diabetes belongs with your physician.

You are told so and pointed toward the right kind of specialist. That happens more often than people expect and it is a deliberate part of how the practice works. Nobody is placed on a plan of care to avoid an awkward conversation about referral.

Both offices run the same service lineup, in Lakeland at 6595 Florida Ave S, Suite 13 and in Lady Lake at 929 US-441 #404 for patients across The Villages. If a particular piece of equipment is only in one building, our front desk will tell you when you call.

Start with the group that matches where you feel it, and read the page that sounds closest. If nothing fits, the musculoskeletal pain page is written for exactly that situation. You are not expected to diagnose yourself before booking an examination.

No. Chiropractic care is the foundation, and it is the part billed to insurance. Alongside it we run spinal and knee decompression, acoustic wave therapy, electroanalgesia, cold laser, and the regenerative, metabolic, functional and sexual wellness care. Those are cash pay.
