Medical Weight Loss at ChiroMed

Have you lost the same weight more than once?

You have lost the same fifteen pounds four times. You have been told to eat less and move more by someone who never asked what your fasting insulin was doing.

You have watched a friend lose weight on a medication you were never offered, never assessed for and never had explained.

What does this program look at first?

Medical weight loss at ChiroMed starts somewhere else. Before a plan is written, we look at what your body is actually doing with food.

That means how your blood sugar behaves, what your history and medications say, and whether insulin resistance is making every calorie decision harder than it should be.

That work is part of the metabolic health programs at this practice rather than a diet standing on its own.

Is this really a willpower problem?

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC has 22 years of listening to people who were told it was. It usually is not.

It is one of the treatments offered through our weight loss service.

What medical weight loss actually does

Medical weight loss is a supervised program that treats weight as a metabolic problem rather than a motivation problem. It combines a personalized nutrition and activity plan with clinical monitoring, and where it is appropriate, GLP-1 medication prescribed under medical oversight. Progress is tracked against measurements and bloodwork, not a scale alone.

The difference between this and a diet is supervision. A plan is written from your history, your measurements and your bloodwork, and a clinician reviews it while you are on it.

Insulin resistance is usually the thing standing in the way. High circulating insulin makes stored fat hard to release, which is the mechanism behind the plateau most dieters describe.

That is treatable, and treating it changes the odds before any medication is discussed. Nutrition, protein, sleep and movement are the base of the plan rather than an afterthought.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases publishes a plain-language guide to prescription medication for overweight and obesity. Its framing matches ours.

How it works

  1. Assessment, then lab work

Your history, your medication list and baseline measurements come first. The laboratory work goes out before any plan is written.

  2. The metabolic base

Insulin resistance makes fat storage easy and fat release difficult. Nutrition, protein, sleep and movement are set against what your results show.

  3. Medication, only if it fits

GLP-1 medicines slow stomach emptying and act on appetite signalling in the brain. They are prescribed under medical oversight, and only where a patient is an appropriate candidate.

Who medical weight loss helps

  • Weight held in place by insulin resistance rather than by effort
  • Metabolic syndrome, where several markers are drifting together
  • Obesity that has not moved with ordinary dieting
  • Weight that is making blood sugar, sleep, energy or joint pain worse

Who it does not help

  • Anyone who wants a prescription without assessment or monitoring
  • Anyone looking to buy a package of visits in advance
  • Anyone hoping to be sold a supplement at the counter
  • Body shape in one region, which is a separate service and not weight loss
  • An eating disorder, which needs specialist care first

Conditions we treat with it

You can read more about each one. The examination decides which of them applies to you.

What This Program Helps With

Weight is the thing people come in for. It is rarely the only thing going on.

Insulin resistance

When cells stop responding properly to insulin, the body makes more of it. High circulating insulin makes stored fat hard to release.

That is the mechanism behind the plateau most dieters describe, and it is treatable. The page on how insulin resistance behaves and what changes it explains what the pattern looks like and what testing shows.

Metabolic syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is the cluster: waist measurement, blood pressure, blood sugar, triglycerides and cholesterol drifting together rather than one at a time.

Treating weight without looking at the cluster is treating one symptom of a group. A supervised program looks at the group, which is why bloodwork comes before the plan and not after it.

Obesity

Obesity is a disease rather than a character flaw. The National Library of Medicine describes it as too much body fat for your height, which raises the risk of many other conditions.

This work is done under clinical supervision rather than sold as a challenge.

Weight that makes everything else harder

Knees that hurt more each year. Sleep that has stopped being restful. Energy that disappears by early afternoon.

Weight sits underneath all three. A practice already treating your joints and your nerve symptoms is well placed to notice.

Why patients choose it

We measure your metabolism first

Two people at the same weight can have completely different metabolic pictures. Bloodwork and history tell us which one you are before anything is prescribed, which is the step most programs skip.

Where medication fits in the plan

GLP-1 medication is prescribed under medical oversight where it fits the patient in front of us. It is one tool inside a plan with nutrition, protein targets, movement and monitoring around it. Used on its own, the weight tends to come back.

You are reviewed while you are on it

Dose, food, side effects and what the scale and tape are doing are looked at together. The plan changes when the numbers say it should.

Your other care is in the same file

Weight, blood sugar, joint pain and energy travel together. Being treated by a practice that also treats your knees and your nerve symptoms means nobody is working in the dark.

Cost, insurance and financing

We do not publish a figure for this program, and we would be suspicious of a clinic that does.

A price quoted before an assessment is a package price, set by what sells rather than by what you need.

The one published price

Consultation, Exam, X-Rays (If Needed) & Report of Findings: Only $47

What affects the cost

  • Whether medication is part of your plan at all, which is decided after the assessment
  • What laboratory work is needed at the start and how often it is repeated
  • How often you are reviewed, which depends on how you respond
  • Whether nutrition coaching is the whole plan or one part of a wider metabolic program

What a course includes

  • The consultation and history with the clinical team
  • Baseline measurements and the recommended laboratory work
  • Your written plan, including nutrition, protein and activity targets
  • Scheduled review visits while you are on the program

Payment:

Medical weight loss is self-pay. If chiropractic care is part of your plan, that part can be billed to insurance, and our team verifies those benefits before your first visit.

Medicare coverage varies by plan and by service, and our front desk will tell you exactly what applies before you commit to anything.

Payment plans are available for self-pay care. Ask the front desk which plan fits your course of care.

The first step costs the same for everyone: Consultation, Exam, X-Rays (If Needed) & Report of Findings: Only $47.

Why ChiroMed

Why does a chiropractic practice run a metabolic program?

Most weight programs sell one thing and cannot notice anything else. Dr. Justin Bergin, DC built ChiroMed the other way around.

Chiropractic, spinal and knee decompression, Omniwave shockwave, Neuromed electroanalgesia, functional testing, gut health and metabolic care run on one plan, under one roof, across 22 years.

What else tends to be going on?

The patient whose blood sugar is drifting is very often the patient whose knees hurt, whose sleep is broken and whose energy has gone.

Those are not four separate appointments at four separate clinics. They are one conversation.

Metabolic care is one of six lines of work here, and the others keep turning out to be related.

To see how weight, blood sugar, testing and nutrition are handled together, read how metabolic care is structured at this practice. Then book the consultation and let the numbers start the conversation.

Where you would be treated

Where is the Lakeland office, and which suite?

The Lakeland office is at 6595 Florida Ave S, Suite 13, Lakeland, FL 33813. Suite 13 matters, because more than one business operates from this building.

Look for the ChiroMed suite number when you arrive. It sits on S. Florida Avenue in South Lakeland, close to Southgate Shopping Center and Lakeside Village.

It is convenient from Highland City, Christina, Scott Lake, Grasslands and the Polk Parkway.

What if The Villages is closer?

In the north the office at 929 US-441 #404, Lady Lake, FL 32159 sits just above CR 466.

It serves The Villages, Summerfield, Wildwood, Oxford, Fruitland Park and Leesburg. The same metabolic program runs at both addresses.

In Lakeland that is 6595 Florida Ave S, Suite 13, Lakeland, serving Polk County. In the Villages market the office is at 929 US-441 #404, Lady Lake, serving Lake County, Sumter County, Marion County. Dr. Justin Bergin, DC performs the examination personally at both, 22 years into practice.

Medical Weight Loss in recent research

These sources are independent of this practice and none of them endorses it. They are listed so the reasoning behind the care can be checked rather than taken on trust.

  1. Once-Weekly Semaglutide in Adults with Overweight or Obesity

The New England Journal of Medicine, 2021

The trial behind current GLP-1 prescribing, in which medication plus a lifestyle program produced sustained weight loss over sixty eight weeks.

  2. Weight Loss to Prevent Obesity-Related Morbidity and Mortality in Adults: Behavioral Interventions

U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, 2018

A grade B recommendation for intensive multicomponent behavioral programs, which is why a supervised plan is judged on more than the prescription.

Compare your options

Real alternatives exist, including ones this practice does not perform. Here is the honest set.

Option What it isTypically considered whenInvasive?Offered at ChiroMed?
Medically supervised metabolic and nutrition program Our approach A plan built from your history, measurements and bloodwork, with clinical review while you are on it. Weight has not responded to ordinary dieting and there are signs that metabolism, insulin or medication side effects are involved.No. Nothing enters the body unless a medication is prescribed.Yes
GLP-1 medication under medical oversight Prescription medicines that slow stomach emptying and act on appetite signalling, taken alongside a nutrition and activity plan. A candidate meets the clinical criteria, understands the side effects, and will be monitored rather than left alone with a pen.Minimally. Self-administered injection, prescribed and monitored.Yes, where the patient is an appropriate candidate
Device-delivered fat reduction A device used on a specific area of the body to reduce fat in that area. Body shape in one region is the goal, and overall weight is not the problem being solved.No. Applied at the surface of the skin.Available at ChiroMed as a separate service, and it is not a weight loss treatment
Over-the-counter weight loss supplements Retail pills, teas and powders sold without prescription or supervision. Someone wants to try something before seeing a clinician. No, though interactions with prescribed medicines are a real risk. Not sold here. Occasionally harmless, frequently useless, and worth asking a clinician about before spending money on them.
Bariatric surgery An operation that changes the size or route of the stomach and intestine. A surgical team judges that the risks of staying at this weight now outweigh the risks of the operation.Yes. Major surgery with permanent changes and lifelong follow-up.Not performed here. Genuinely the right call for some patients with severe obesity, particularly where serious weight-related illness is present and supervised programs have not been enough.

Two of these are not available here, and one of them can save a life. If a surgical referral is the right answer for you, you will hear it from us. You will not hear it a year into a program that was never going to be enough.

Is medical weight loss right for someone like you?

Candidacy is decided at the examination, not on a web page. These are the general lines.

Likely a good candidate if

  • Weight has not moved despite genuine effort with food and activity
  • Bloodwork or symptoms point to insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome
  • You want medical supervision rather than a subscription and a shipment
  • Weight is making joint pain, energy, sleep or blood sugar harder to manage
  • You are willing to be measured, reviewed and told the truth about what is working
Nobody is put on a medication here to fill a program. If the assessment says medication is wrong for you, the plan is built without it. If it says you should be seen by a surgical or specialist team, you will be told that at the consultation.

We will point you elsewhere if

  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy in the near term
  • You want a prescription without assessment, monitoring or any change to eating
  • There is a personal or family history that makes GLP-1 medication inappropriate, which is screened at the consultation
  • An eating disorder is present or suspected, which needs specialist care first
  • Severe obesity with serious weight-related illness that a surgical team should be assessing now

When we are not the right answer, we say so, and connect you with someone who is.

Not sure? That is exactly what the examination answers

Your first visit

What to expect, step by step

The first visit is an assessment and lab work, not a prescription. We take your history, your medication list and what you have already tried.

Lab results come back before any plan is written, and the plan is medically supervised. What it includes and what it costs is put to you in writing before anything begins.

  1. A clinician and patient talking across the consulting desk at the first visit.
    01

    Consultation and history

What you have already tried, what happened, what your medications are, how you sleep and what a normal eating day actually looks like. This conversation takes as long as it takes.

  2. A ChiroMed treatment room with a drop-piece adjustment table, a rolling stool and a wall-mounted monitor.
    02

    Measurement and bloodwork

Baseline measurements and the laboratory work needed to see how your body is handling blood sugar and fat. This is the step that separates a supervised program from a diet, and it is where insulin resistance usually shows itself.

  3. Dr. Justin Bergin reviewing a care plan with a patient at ChiroMed
    03

Your plan, and whether medication belongs in it

You are shown what was found and what it means. Nutrition, protein, activity and sleep are set first. Whether GLP-1 medication is appropriate for you is decided here, under medical oversight, and explained before anything is prescribed.

  4. A person preparing a balanced meal in a bright kitchen.
    04

Review while you are on it

Weight is the least interesting number on the sheet. Measurements, how you feel, how you are eating, side effects and the follow-up laboratory work all get reviewed. The plan is adjusted on that evidence rather than on a calendar.

  5. An adjustment that is not aimed at a specific finding is just noise. We treat what the exam and the X-ray tell us to treat.

How much does a weight loss clinic cost?

It varies so widely that any figure quoted before an assessment is a sales number.

What moves it is whether medication is part of your plan, how much laboratory work is needed, and how often you are reviewed.

You get the full cost of your recommended plan in writing first. The only figure we publish is the $47 new patient exam.

the clinic team
Is a weight loss clinic worth it?

It is worth it when it does what you cannot do alone. That means measuring what your metabolism is doing, prescribing and monitoring safely, and changing the plan when the numbers say so.

It is not worth it when it sells a package and never looks at you again. Ask who reviews you, how often, and what happens if it is not working.

the clinic team
What is the best doctor to see for weight loss?

Start with someone who assesses the metabolic picture rather than handing you a calorie target.

That means a full history, relevant bloodwork, prescribing under proper medical oversight where appropriate, and monitoring afterwards.

Where severe obesity comes with serious illness, a bariatric surgical team belongs in the conversation, and a good clinic will say so.

the clinic team
What is the most successful weight loss treatment?

It depends on the person, and anything that works long term has supervision and follow-up attached.

GLP-1 medication has changed what is achievable for many patients, and it works best alongside real changes to eating, protein and activity.

For severe obesity with complications, bariatric surgery remains the most powerful option, and it is not performed here.

the clinic team
Will insurance pay for medical weight loss?

Metabolic care at ChiroMed is self-pay. Chiropractic care here does bill insurance and is verified separately before your first visit.

Medicare coverage varies by plan and by service. Payment plans are available, and the front desk will tell you which one fits your course.
