Has a surgeon asked you to lose weight first?

Somebody has told you to lose weight before they will do the knee. Or the hip. It is one of the reasons people ring this desk, and it is a harder assignment at 71 than it sounded in the surgeon's office.

You walk less because the joint hurts, and the joint hurts more because of the weight.

Did anybody ask what else you are taking?

Nobody in that appointment asked. People who sit down at our Lady Lake desk are often carrying five, eight, sometimes twelve prescriptions, and several of those change what the scale does.

What does the first visit at Lady Lake actually do?

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC has 22 years behind that conversation and treats at this office Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The first visit is an assessment, not a prescription.

What medical weight loss is

Medical weight loss at our Lady Lake office is a medically supervised program that opens with lab work and a full medication review rather than a meal plan. Where GLP-1 medication is appropriate it is prescribed under medical oversight, as one part of a wider plan.

After the report of findings you receive the plan on paper: what is recommended, what it includes and what it costs.

This is not a questionnaire and a monthly parcel, and it carries no promise about how fast anything will move. No honest clinician makes that promise to a 70 year old on six medications.

Some people are told no here, and they are told why.

Your Medication List Is the First Thing We Read

Bring the bottles. Not a list written out at the kitchen table, the actual containers, including whatever sits at the back of the cupboard for bad weeks.

This office sees people managing four or five conditions at once. Blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, blood sugar, sleep, and a blood thinner started after something frightening happened. Several of those drug classes are associated with weight that will not move, and a few change what can safely be added on top. We alter nothing your prescriber has put you on. We read the list so the plan is built around it.

Then the laboratory work. Fasting glucose and insulin, A1c, thyroid, kidney function and lipids. In this age group those numbers may have been drifting for years, each reviewed by a different person and never looked at together.

When the Surgeon Says Lose Weight First

A reasonable requirement, and a genuinely difficult one, because the joint that needs replacing is the reason you stopped walking. The pool helps. The gym is not much use when standing up is the painful part.

What we can do is work the metabolic side while the joint is handled separately by the non-surgical joint work this practice already runs, in the same building, on the same file. You can ask about both at one visit rather than arranging two clinics in two towns.

What we will not do is put a date or a number on it. No clinic can honestly forecast that, least of all with six medications and a painful joint in the picture.

If a surgical referral is the honest answer for you, you will hear it at the consultation rather than a year into a program that was never going to be enough.

Who This Suits, and Who It Does Not

Likely a good fit if: weight has not shifted despite real effort with food and walking. Your laboratory work points at insulin resistance. A joint replacement is waiting on your weight. You want supervision rather than a subscription, and you are willing to be told plainly when something is not working.

Generally not appropriate if: you want a prescription without assessment or any change to how you eat. A personal or family history rules GLP-1 medication out, which is screened at the consultation. An eating disorder is present or suspected, which needs specialist care first. Severe obesity sits alongside serious illness a surgical team should see now.

Nobody is put on a medication here to fill a program.

Why the Lady Lake Office

Three treating days a week is the shape of this practice rather than a limitation of it. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, morning and afternoon. No fourth day is added at this address, so the appointment you are given is a real one rather than a slot squeezed between two others.

What that buys is time. At 74 a history of two surgeries, a cardiac event, a thyroid diagnosis and a shelf of tablets does not fit into twelve minutes.

Weight, blood sugar, worn knees, numb feet and broken sleep arrive together in this market, and here they are treated on one Doctor of Chiropractic led plan. See how the metabolic programs are organized for The Villages, and everything about visiting days, suite 404 and parking on the office page.

Call (352) 915-7150 and book the assessment. Bring the bottles.

Cost, insurance and financing

No figure is published for this program and none is quoted on the phone. A price given before an assessment is a package price, set by what sells rather than by what your bloodwork says you need.

The one published price

Consultation, Exam, X-Rays (If Needed) & Report of Findings: Only $47

What affects the cost

  • Whether medication belongs in your plan at all, which is settled after the assessment
  • How much laboratory work is needed at the start, and how often it is repeated
  • How often you are reviewed, which depends on how your numbers respond
  • Whether nutrition work is the whole plan or one part of a wider metabolic program

What a course includes

  • The consultation, your history and the medication review
  • Baseline measurements and the recommended laboratory work
  • Your written plan, with food, protein and activity targets
  • Scheduled review visits on this office's treating days

Payment:

Medical weight loss is self-pay. Chiropractic care at ChiroMed bills insurance, and our team verifies those benefits before your first visit, Medicare and Medicare Advantage included. Coverage varies by plan and by service, and the front desk will tell you exactly what applies before you commit to anything. Payment plans are available for self-pay care. Ask the front desk which plan fits your course of care. One figure is the same for everyone: Consultation, Exam, X-Rays (If Needed) & Report of Findings: Only $47.

What we are near

Where exactly is the Lady Lake office?

The address is 929 US-441 #404, Lady Lake, FL 32159, on North US-441 a short way above the CR 466 lights.

Suite 404 is the one to look for.

What is the parking like at the door?

Parking sits at ground level immediately outside, with no garage to circle and no stairs to climb.

That matters when a knee is half the reason you are here.

Can you get here by golf cart?

Golf carts reach us, though the paths change often enough that the route is worth checking before you set off.

Ring (352) 915-7150 and the front desk will talk you through the current way in from your village.

Which towns and villages does this office draw from?

Patients come from The Villages itself and from Lady Lake, Summerfield, Wildwood, Oxford, Fruitland Park and Leesburg, across Sumter, Lake and Marion counties.

What else is close by?

Spanish Springs Town Square is the nearest of the three squares, Lake Sumter Landing a straightforward run and Brownwood Paddock Square the longest. Ocala National Forest lies about fifteen miles north.

UF Health The Villages Hospital is nearby, and we are not affiliated with the hospital.

Our Lady Lake office is a short drive from the Lake-Sumter State College campus in Leesburg, and we serve the same tri-county community. We are not affiliated with the college.

ChiroMed is an independent practice. Naming nearby hospitals, colleges or landmarks describes where we are, not who we are affiliated with. There is no affiliation, partnership or endorsement of any kind.

Patient experience at our Lady Lake office

How many reviews does this office have?

This is the newer of our two offices and the review base here is still small.

The single review left at this address came from a patient treated for long standing pain, and it says nothing about weight or metabolic care.

What can you check about this desk?

What we can tell you about this desk is checkable. We treat Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, mornings and afternoons, and are closed the rest of the week.

Patients drive down from Summerfield and Oxford, up from Wildwood and Leesburg, and others arrive by golf cart from the villages nearest Spanish Springs.

What do people ask this desk about weight?

Three questions come up here again and again: whether Medicare pays, whether a medication is safe alongside what a cardiologist already prescribes, and whether losing weight will finally get the joint replacement booked.

Independent background: the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases guide to prescription weight-control medication.

Your first visit

What to expect, step by step

The first appointment at Lady Lake is an assessment and lab work, not a prescription, and nobody is asked to buy a course before a number has been seen. Allow time. A history with two surgeries, a cardiac event and a shelf of tablets takes a while to tell properly.

  1. 01

Bring the bottles, not a list

Every prescription and supplement, in the containers, including the ones you only take some days. We are not changing what your prescriber has put you on. We read it so the plan is built around it.

  2. 02

    Laboratory work before a plan

Blood sugar, insulin, thyroid, kidney function and lipids. At 68 those numbers may have been drifting for a decade with nobody joining them up.

  3. 03

Findings, then the plan in writing

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC shows you what the work found and what it means. Food, protein, activity and sleep are set first. Whether medication belongs in your plan is decided here, under medical oversight, before anything is prescribed.

  4. A person preparing a balanced meal in a bright kitchen.
    04

    Reviewed on treating days

Reviews are booked into this office's Monday, Wednesday and Thursday schedule. Measurements, side effects and the follow-up laboratory work are read together, and the plan changes on that evidence.

  5. An adjustment that is not aimed at a specific finding is just noise. We treat what the exam and the X-ray tell us to treat.

Medical Weight Loss in The Villages in recent research

These sources are independent of this practice and none of them endorses it. They are listed so the reasoning behind the care can be checked rather than taken on trust.

  1. Once-Weekly Semaglutide in Adults with Overweight or Obesity

The New England Journal of Medicine, 2021

The trial behind current GLP-1 prescribing, in which medication combined with a supervised lifestyle program produced sustained weight loss over sixty eight weeks.

  2. Weight Loss to Prevent Obesity-Related Morbidity and Mortality in Adults: Behavioral Interventions

U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, 2018

A grade B recommendation for intensive multicomponent behavioral programs, which is why a plan here is judged on more than whether a prescription was written.

Medical Weight Loss in The Villages questions

Tap a message for the honest answer. Call The Villages (352) 915-7150

Are your weight loss appointments on the same days as the Lakeland office?

No. This office treats Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Tuesday and Friday are by appointment, and this office is closed Saturday and Sunday. Lady Lake works those three days, with Tuesday and Friday by appointment, so there are fewer slots here than at a seven-day clinic. The other schedule is on the Lakeland office's own page. If none of the three days works for you, ring (352) 915-7150 and say so rather than assuming there is nothing. New assessments get moved up the list where we can.

the clinic team
My surgeon wants me lighter before a knee or hip replacement. Can you help with that?

This is work we do, so say so at the consultation because it changes what we watch. Protein, muscle, blood sugar control and the medications that affect healing all matter more when an operation is waiting. You get your findings in writing and you are free to hand them to your surgeon. What you will not get from us is a date or a rate of loss. Nobody can promise that honestly, and we are not going to be the clinic that does.

the clinic team
Does Medicare cover medical weight loss at your Lady Lake office?

Plan on paying for it. The metabolic program here is self-pay. Chiropractic care does bill insurance, and our team verifies those benefits before your first visit, including what a Medicare or Medicare Advantage plan says about spinal manipulation. Coverage varies by plan and by service, so ask the front desk to check while they have you on the phone rather than taking an answer from a forum.

the clinic team
Can I come by golf cart, and where do I leave it?

Patients arrive by cart. Routes and path connections change, so call (352) 915-7150 and the desk will describe the current way in from your village and where to leave the cart when you get here. If you drive instead, parking is flat, at ground level, directly outside suite 404, and there are no stairs between the car and the door.

the clinic team
What should I bring to the first visit?

Every medication and supplement you take, in the bottles, including anything you only take occasionally. Any recent laboratory work you already have, even if a cardiologist or your primary physician ordered it. The name of the specialist who asked you to lose weight, if that is why you are coming. New patients start with the Consultation, Exam, X-Rays (If Needed) & Report of Findings: Only $47.

the clinic team
Will I know what the program costs before I start?

Yes, in writing, before anything begins. Nothing is quoted over the phone because a price set before an assessment is a package price. What moves it is whether medication forms part of your plan at all, how much laboratory work is needed and how often you are reviewed.
