Soft tissue therapy is hands-on treatment of muscle, tendon, ligament and fascia using sustained pressure, movement and smooth-edged instruments. It goes after restriction, adhesion and old scar tissue that limit how a joint moves. Nothing is injected, nothing is prescribed, and it is delivered inside a clinical plan.

The examination is what separates this from an hour on a massage table. Dr. Justin Bergin, DC works through the area by hand until something reproduces the pain you came in with, then treats that. Two local things shape the delivery. Many patients here are retired, and a retired week carries more walking, court time and gardening than a working week ever did, so tissue rarely gets a quiet day. The other is medication, because blood thinners are common at this age and change what is safe to do with pressure. Expect to feel tender the day after. Who This Suits, and Who It Does Not

Likely a good fit if: pain keeps returning to the same spot. A tendon problem in the heel, elbow or shoulder has not settled. Old scar tissue limits how far a limb goes. An adjustment helps and then slips. Range has dropped with a clean scan.

Generally not appropriate if: there is an open wound, a rash or a skin infection over the area. A fracture or surgical site is still healing. Swelling or lumps have not been worked up. Anticoagulation makes bruising a real risk without clearance. Pain comes with fever, weight loss or night pain.

    What hurts, how long for, what you have tried, and every medication you take. Blood thinners, bone density, joint replacements and previous operations all change technique and pressure. Bring the list rather than trying to remember it in the room.

    The area is examined by hand

    Range is tested, then Dr. Justin Bergin, DC presses through the tissue until he finds what reproduces your pain. That spot is often not where you have been pointing. A shoulder blade can be a neck and a heel can be a hip.

    Findings, and what the plan is worth

    You are shown which tissue is involved and whether it explains your symptoms, and what a course looks like around three treating days a week. If imaging is needed first, you hear that instead.

  4. 04

    Treatment, then homework you can actually do

    Manual contact, instrument work, or both, usually with you moving the limb while pressure is held. Say so if it is too much, because the pressure is set to you. You leave with movement to do at home, since tissue freed on Monday and never used tightens again by Thursday.

  5. An adjustment that is not aimed at a specific finding is just noise. We treat what the exam and the X-ray tell us to treat.

There are massage places all over this community. How is this different?

Those are worth having, and they are a different thing. A massage is generally sold by the hour and aimed at a whole region so you leave relaxed. Here you are examined first, one restriction is identified as the reason your shoulder or heel behaves the way it does, and the work goes at that, inside a written plan with re-checks. ChiroMed does not offer a standalone massage booking. If relaxation is what you are after, we will happily point you elsewhere.

I am on a blood thinner. Can I still have hands-on work?

Often yes, with the technique and the pressure changed, and sometimes not until your prescriber has been asked. Anticoagulants make bruising a genuine risk, and they are common among patients at this office. Osteoporosis, a fusion, a replaced joint and recent surgery all matter the same way. Bring the whole medication list to the first visit. This is decided at the examination, before anything is booked.

Which days can I be seen at the Lady Lake office?

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Tuesday and Friday here are by appointment, and we are closed Saturday and Sunday. My shoulder was repaired two years ago and it is still tight. Is it too late?

Old scar tissue is one of the more common reasons people come to this office, and age of the injury matters less than what the examination finds. Scar tissue that formed in an awkward pattern can often be worked with long after the surgery. What we will not do is promise you a result, and if the restriction turns out to be inside the joint rather than in the tissue around it, you will be told to go back to the surgeon who did the repair.
