Why does nobody here talk about this one?

This community talks about everything except this. People compare knee surgeons at the pool and swap cardiologists over lunch, then go quiet about the one thing that is bothering them.

That leaves the question to the internet, where the answer is usually a pill by post.

Who is this care for?

Men and women both ask about this at our Lady Lake office, and it is not about chasing your twenties.

It is for a long marriage, or for a new relationship after losing a spouse, where something that used to work has stopped working.

What have people usually tried first?

Some tried the tablets and disliked the side effects. Some were told not to take them because of their heart medication.

What sexual health is

Sexual wellness care at ChiroMed is non-surgical, drug-free treatment aimed at the blood-flow side of sexual function, for men and women. We use GAINSWave acoustic wave therapy, delivered in the clinic by the same team that treats your back. There is no prescription, no injection and no surgery, and it is self-pay.

Sexual difficulty that comes with age is often a blood flow problem first. Erections and arousal depend on small blood vessels filling tissue quickly and holding it.

Those are the same vessels affected by blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and ordinary wear. Tablets widen those vessels for a few hours and change nothing about the vessels themselves.

Acoustic wave therapy works on the vessels: low-intensity sound waves applied to the tissue, to encourage the body's own repair and circulation. The same physics is behind the Omniwave shockwave we use on worn knees.

GAINSWave is the protocol used for the sexual-health application. No anesthetic, nothing inserted, and you drive yourself home.

What Changes With Age, and What Does Not

Sexual function changes with age, and much of that change is normal. Erections need more direct stimulation, may be less firm, and take longer to return. Arousal in women takes longer, and dryness and thinning tissue make comfort the problem more often than desire does. The National Institute on Aging describes these as ordinary physical changes rather than the end of a sex life.

Gradual change is aging. Sudden or total loss of function is a warning sign. Erections that disappeared over a few months usually point at circulation, blood sugar, medication or a hormone problem, and those are worth finding.

Where the problem is local blood flow, acoustic wave therapy is a reasonable non-drug option. Medication side effects can often be adjusted by your prescriber, and better diabetes control helps.

What we cannot help with here is anything that needs a prescription, a hormone or an operation.

What This Care Addresses

For men. Erectile difficulty, erections that will not hold, reduced firmness, performance that changed over a year or two. Men told not to use oral medication because of nitrate or cardiac prescriptions ask about this too.

For women. Reduced arousal and sensitivity, discomfort, and the changes that follow menopause. Women are treated here as well as men.

For both. A sex life that quietly stopped being part of the relationship, because there was never an easy way to raise it.

The Diabetes and Circulation Connection

This overlaps with the numb feet we treat as neuropathy.

Diabetes damages small blood vessels and the nerves they supply. In the feet that shows up as neuropathy. In sexual tissue it shows up as difficulty with erection, arousal and sensation, often earlier. It is the same process in a different place. That is why we ask about your blood sugar, your blood pressure medication and your cholesterol first.

Why People Choose This Instead of Tablets by Post

Somebody examines you. A questionnaire and a tablet in the letterbox check nothing. Sometimes the most useful result of a first visit here is a referral.

Nothing prescribed, nothing inserted. No interactions to weigh against your cardiac medication, no injections, no implant.

Named equipment. GAINSWave for the sexual-health application, Omniwave shockwave for the joints.

One clinician, one roof. The same practice treats the back, knees, neuropathy and metabolic health that feed into this.

Who This Suits, and Who It Does Not

Likely a good fit if: the change came on gradually. You have risk factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol or blood sugar. Oral medication is unsuitable, or you do not want it. You want no downtime, and you will attend a course rather than expecting one visit.

Generally not appropriate if: function was lost suddenly, which needs investigating first. There is untreated infection or broken skin in the area. You have a penile implant, or you are taking blood thinners. You have a heart condition nobody has assessed recently. You want a guarantee, because nobody can give you one.

We decide that at the examination, not on the phone.

How We Keep the Appointment Private

In a community this size, the worry is usually about being recognized in the waiting room rather than about the treatment.

Your appointment is booked under the same appointment types as a back or a knee. Your history is taken with the door closed. Because this care is self-pay, no itemized claim goes to an insurer. The office is also on US-441 rather than inside a village.

Why This Office

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC has 22 years in practice. Acoustic wave therapy sits under the same roof as spinal and knee decompression, Neuromed electroanalgesia, metabolic health and functional testing. Sexual difficulty in this age group is rarely on its own. It comes with blood sugar, circulation, weight, medication and sleep.

There is more detail, including the women's side, on the full men's and women's sexual health program. The same equipment is used on joints, under the same acoustic wave equipment used on worn joints.

Your first visit

What to expect, step by step

You know the plan and the cost before anything begins.

  1. 01

    A private conversation first

A proper history, in a closed room. Medication, cardiac history, diabetes, prostate surgery, what you have tried and what happened. None of it is discussed at the front desk.

  2. 02

    Examination and screening

The examination checks for the things that mean a physician should see you before any program starts. Sexual difficulty is often the first sign of a circulation or blood sugar problem.

  3. 03

    Findings and a straight answer

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC tells you what he found and whether this care is reasonable for your situation. If the honest answer is a urologist or your cardiologist first, that is what you hear.

  4. 04

    Sessions, then an honest review

Sessions are short, in clinic, with no downtime. We set the length of the course at the examination rather than selling you a package. We review you against what you reported at the start. If nothing has changed, we tell you.

  5. An adjustment that is not aimed at a specific finding is just noise. We treat what the exam and the X-ray tell us to treat.

Can a 75 year old man get hard?

Yes, very often. Age on its own does not end erectile function. The National Institute on Aging is clear that sexual activity continues for many people well into later life. What changes is that erections usually need more direct stimulation, may be less firm, and take longer to return afterwards. That is normal aging. Erections disappearing entirely, or over a short period, is not. That usually points at a blood flow, blood sugar or medication problem worth investigating in its own right.

the clinic team
Do men with erectile dysfunction still feel pleasure?

In most cases, yes. Erection and sensation run on different systems, so less firmness does not usually mean less feeling, and orgasm is generally still possible. Where the sensation itself has changed, the usual causes are diabetic nerve damage, prostate surgery or certain medications. Those are worth identifying, because each one points to different care.

the clinic team
How to stay hard without Viagra?

The real list is shorter than the internet suggests. Start with the basics, because blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, weight, alcohol and sleep all feed into erectile function. Go through your medication with your prescriber, since several common ones contribute. Beyond that, the non-drug option we offer is GAINSWave acoustic wave therapy. It works on local blood flow rather than producing an effect on demand. It does not work for everyone.

the clinic team
Does ED mean something is wrong with my heart or my blood sugar?

It can, and this is the most important part. The vessels that supply erectile tissue are small, so they often show trouble before the larger vessels of the heart do. Erectile difficulty is a recognized early sign of heart disease, and of diabetes that is undiagnosed or poorly controlled. If your examination raises that, we tell you to see your physician, and we tell you that before we discuss any program.

the clinic team
Is ChiroMed an approved GAINSWave provider?

Yes. ChiroMed is an approved GAINSWave provider, and the therapy is delivered in clinic at both of our offices, including Lady Lake. GAINSWave is a specific acoustic wave protocol, not a generic machine setting. Ask any provider you are considering whether they use it, and who performs the sessions.

the clinic team
Is this covered by insurance?

No. Sexual wellness care here is self-pay. In a small community that has one practical upside: no itemized claim for this care goes to an insurer. Chiropractic care at ChiroMed does bill insurance. If you are being treated for something else at the same time, the two are handled separately. Payment plans are available for self-pay care.
