Is this the injury you actually have?

Very few people arrive here with a fresh tear. They arrive with something that has been niggling since the spring.

An elbow that flared after a month of three games a week and never fully quieted. A shoulder that objects to the top of the backswing. An Achilles stiff for the first hundred yards of every morning walk.

Why has resting it not settled it?

They have rested it, iced it, worn a strap and been told it takes time. Time alone is the one thing that does not fix a tendon, because a tendon only adapts when something asks it to.

Does being in your seventies change the plan?

Age is the other half of it. Connective tissue at 72 remodels more slowly than it did at 42, and the plan has to respect that.

Ligaments join bone to bone and hold a joint steady. Tendons join muscle to bone and carry force. Tendinopathy is a tendon that has become disorganized and sore under load rather than acutely torn. At the Lady Lake office these are graded first, then treated with Omniwave shockwave, manual work, laser and loading. Surgical repair is not done here. The first visit is $47.

This page covers The Villages specifically. The neutral ligament and tendon injury page covers the clinical picture for both offices.

Symptoms

What The Villages patients describe when they call this office.

  • A pinpoint sore spot you can put one finger on
  • An elbow that hurts gripping a club, a paddle or a kettle
  • Stiffness for the first hundred yards, then it eases
  • Pain the day after activity rather than during it
  • A shoulder that catches reaching into a high cupboard
  • Swelling around a joint you turned weeks ago
  • A sense the knee or ankle might give way on uneven ground
  • Soreness that settles with a week off and returns in two days
  • Loss of grip strength without any obvious weakness elsewhere

Common causes

Volume that climbed faster than the tissue

Three pickleball mornings became five. A dormant golf game became four rounds a week after a move down here. Tendon adapts slowly, and the gap between what you now do and what the tissue has built for is where the pain lives.

A single moment that failed the tissue

A stumble off a curb, a turned ankle on a cart path, a hand put out to break a fall. The grade of that sprain decides how much protecting the joint needs first.

Tissue that remodels more slowly with the decades

Repair takes longer with the decades, and a previous injury to the same joint raises the odds again. What was harmless at forty can irritate the same tendon at seventy.

A joint above or below doing less than its share

A stiff mid back throws work into the rotator cuff. A locked ankle throws it into the Achilles. Treating the sore spot and ignoring the joint next door is why these come back.

Garden, grandchildren and the everyday load

Hours of pruning, a weekend of lifting a toddler, a wheelbarrow of mulch. Nobody reports these as injuries, and they often tipped an already busy tendon over.

How we treat it at our Lady Lake office

The first job is grading what you have and deciding whether it belongs here at all. Dr. Justin Bergin, DC tests the tissue, checks the joint above and below, and says plainly whether this is a conservative case or a surgical opinion. Where it is ours, the plan layers Omniwave shockwave, manual soft tissue work and laser on top of loading that is built up deliberately rather than avoided.

Omniwave shockwave for a tendon that has stalled

Acoustic pressure waves are put through the skin into a tendon that has stopped making progress on its own. This is the tool for the elbow or Achilles measured in months, and nothing is injected.

acoustic wave sessions for an elbow or Achilles that stopped progressing

Manual work on the thickened fibers

Hands-on and instrument assisted work on the dense tissue that forms around a healing tendon, so it glides and tolerates load again rather than feeling looser for an afternoon.

instrument-assisted work on thickened tendon fibers

Cold laser while loading is still uncomfortable

Low level laser over the painful structure while the tissue will not yet take much work. It takes minutes and it is painless.

laser used through the phase before real loading starts

Knee decompression where the knee is the real problem

Where the sore structure sits in or around a knee that is already compressed, unloading the joint changes what the tendon puts up with. It comes up for knees that never came right after an old sprain.

Rehabilitation after a repair done elsewhere

Some patients in this market arrive already repaired. Structured rehabilitation is available here once your surgeon has cleared the joint to be loaded.

Months, Not Weeks, Changes The Whole Plan

A tendon hurt on Tuesday and a tendon sore since February are two problems wearing the same name. The recent one needs protecting and then loading. The old one has stopped behaving like an injury at all: collagen has been laid down in the wrong arrangement and settled there, which is why anti-inflammatories disappoint people who have taken them for a season. That is where shockwave belongs, on tissue that has quietly given up.

What Progress Actually Looks Like Here

Nobody is asked to guess month to month. At the report of findings you are told what would count as real progress, and then it is measured: grip, range, single leg load, the day after soreness. This office treats Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, so the sessions cluster in that window and the loading program is yours on the other four days. Where a plan has stalled, it changes or you get referred.

Before You Book, And When To Skip Us Entirely

Partial rest beats complete rest. Stop the one movement that reproduces the sharp pain and keep the rest of the joint moving. Do not stretch hard into sharpness, which irritates a tendon rather than lengthening it.

Some things need a doctor the same day instead of an appointment here. You cannot put weight on it. The joint gave way. It looks out of shape. You felt a pop and it swelled inside the hour. The area is hot, red and you have a fever.

Cost, Insurance And Medicare

Shockwave and laser sit in the self-pay line and you hear that before anything is booked. Where chiropractic care is part of your plan, that portion bills insurance and our team verifies your benefits first. Medicare coverage varies by plan and by service, so the front desk confirms what applies before you commit. New patients start at $47 and payment plans are available for self-pay care.

Who Is Treating You

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC has 22 years in practice and examines every new tendon and ligament case at this office himself. The examination is the point of the first visit, because much of this decision is about which cases belong here and which belong with a surgeon. He rejects the rushed-appointment model that sends people out with a brace and a follow up in six weeks. Appointments here are long enough for the whole history, which matters more at 74 than at 40.

What we are near

Where exactly is the Lady Lake office?

You will find us at 929 US-441 #404, Lady Lake, FL 32159, on North US-441 just above where it meets CR 466. The suite is 404.

What is the walk in like on a sore Achilles?

Everything is on one level and parking sits outside the door. There are no stairs and no garage ramp to deal with on a sore Achilles or a braced knee.

Can I come by golf cart?

Golf carts are a normal way to arrive, and because the routes get changed the front desk gives you the current one over the phone.

Who else travels in to this office?

Patient experience at our Lady Lake office

Has anybody written about tendon care at this office?

This is the newer of our two offices and only a handful of patients have written about it so far.

None of what exists describes a tendon or a ligament, so we have nothing local to show you on this page.

Why not show a Lakeland review instead?

Borrowing a Lakeland review would make it look otherwise, and it is not our proof to borrow.

Ligament and Tendon Injury in recent research

These sources are independent of this practice and none of them endorses it. They are listed so the reasoning behind the care can be checked rather than taken on trust.

  1. Sports Injuries

National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, 2024

The federal reference on sprains, strains and tendinitis, including the grading that decides whether an injury can be managed without surgery.

  2. The Effect of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy in Tendinopathy: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

    Orthopaedic Surgery, 2026

Pools the randomized trials of shockwave therapy across tendon problems, which is the evidence base for the Omniwave protocol used here.

What to expect

Your first visit, step by step

You know the plan and the cost before anything begins.

  1. 01

History, including the week it started

What changed in the two weeks before the pain arrived is usually the whole story. New activity, more of an old one, a different racquet or a different shoe.

  2. 02

    Grading the tissue

Orthopedic testing of the structure itself plus the joint above and below, with imaging only where it would change the plan. You leave knowing which tissue is injured and roughly how badly.

  3. 03

    A straight answer on candidacy

If the findings point to a full tear or an unstable joint, you are told that and pointed at the right specialist rather than started on a course of care.

  4. 04

Settle, then load, around three treating days

Irritation comes down first, then load is added on purpose. This office treats Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, so the loading work is yours to carry on the days between.

  5. An adjustment that is not aimed at a specific finding is just noise. We treat what the exam and the X-ray tell us to treat.

The Villages questions

Tap a message for the honest answer. Call The Villages (352) 915-7150

Do you treat pickleball elbow and golfer's elbow at the Lady Lake office?

Yes, and they are among the reasons people book here. Both are tendon problems at the elbow, one on the outer side and one on the inner, and both are assessed the same way as any other tendinopathy. The plan usually pairs device sessions with hands-on work and a grip and forearm loading program you run at home.

the clinic team
Which days can I be seen at this Lady Lake office?

Lady Lake treats Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Tuesday and Friday are by appointment, and this office is closed Saturday and Sunday. It matters for planning a course of care, because every treating visit has to sit inside those three days. If your schedule does not fit them, say so when you call and the front desk will tell you what is realistic. Our Lakeland office publishes its own schedule, so check when the Lakeland office runs its clinic days before assuming the two match.

the clinic team
I am in my seventies. Is it too late for this to settle?

No, though the honest version is that it usually takes longer than it would have done thirty years ago. Tendon tissue remodels more slowly with age and a previous injury to the same joint slows it further. What does not change is the mechanism: the tissue responds to being loaded properly. We set the expectation at the report of findings rather than at visit ten.

the clinic team
Is the shockwave equipment here or do I have to drive to Lakeland?

Both offices run the same service lineup, so shockwave is available to patients seen here. Which specific unit is sitting in which building is a question for the front desk rather than something we will assert on a web page. Call before you set off and you will be told exactly where your sessions will happen.

the clinic team
Should I stop playing while this is treated?

Complete rest usually makes a tendon worse, because it removes the one stimulus a tendon adapts to. The usual advice is to keep playing in a reduced form. Cut the number of games rather than stopping altogether, drop the shots that reproduce the sharp pain, and add the rest back in steps once the day after stops being sore. A full stop is reserved for injuries that grade badly on examination.
