Is this one problem or three separate ones?

You have a shoulder that aches, a hip that has started clicking and a low back that flares every few weeks. You have no idea whether that is one problem or three. This page is for the person who does not know which page to read.

Somewhere in the last two years you were told nothing structural was wrong. That left you without an explanation and without a plan.

What does the first visit start with?

A second person told you it was your age. A third gave you exercises for the wrong joint.

Coming here does not start with treatment. It starts with somebody spending long enough to work out which structure is generating the pain, then saying it out loud.

Musculoskeletal pain means pain from the moving parts: muscle, joint, tendon, ligament, disc and the nerves serving them. It is a description rather than a diagnosis, which is the problem. The first visit at the Lady Lake office is an examination aimed at naming the source, because the source and not the sore spot decides the treatment. The consultation, exam, X-rays if needed and report of findings is $47.

This page covers The Villages specifically. The neutral musculoskeletal pain page covers the clinical picture for both offices.

Symptoms

What The Villages patients describe when they call this office.

  • Several areas sore at once, none of them catastrophic
  • Pain that seems to move from one region to another
  • Worst after sitting, easier once you are up and about
  • A flare every few weeks with no obvious trigger
  • One shoulder or hip that will not go through its full range
  • Clicking or grinding that you have stopped mentioning
  • Muscle that feels braced and never lets go
  • Sleep broken by whichever side you lie on
  • Tiredness that comes from holding yourself against pain all day

Common causes

Years of compensating for one stiff joint

When a joint stops moving through its range, the ones either side take up the slack. The stiff joint is often silent and the neighbor is the one shouting. After fifteen years, several areas hurt and the original is not among them.

Living around an old surgery

Replacements and spinal surgery are common in this population, and a body reorganizes itself around them. That is normal rather than a complication, and it changes where load ends up.

The particular shape of a day here

An hour in a cart seat, a morning bent over a raised bed, two sets on a hard court, then a long drive to see family. Sustained positions and short bursts load different tissue, and people here do both in a day.

Wear that shows on a scan and explains nothing

Degenerative change is more common with every decade and turns up in people with no symptoms at all. Finding it does not prove it is your problem, which is why the examination outranks the scan.

A nervous system that has been on alert for months

Where pain has run a long time, the system gets more efficient at producing it. That does not make it imagined. It means movement tolerance belongs in the plan.

How we treat it at our Lady Lake office

Nothing is treated until the source has a name. Dr. Justin Bergin, DC takes the history, screens you orthopedically and neurologically, watches you move, then tells you which structure is producing what. Care follows from that: adjusting where joints are restricted, manual work where muscle is holding the pattern in place, and acoustic wave therapy where one named structure has stalled.

Examination and adjusting for restricted joints

Where testing finds joints that have stopped moving properly, adjusting restores the range so the tissue around them can stop covering for it. This part of the practice bills insurance, and your benefits are verified first.

how the examination and adjusting are run on a treating day here

Manual work on muscle that has been guarding

Hands-on and instrument assisted release of the dense, tender tissue that builds up around a painful joint. It is part of why an adjustment can hold instead of unwinding overnight.

release work for muscle that has been guarding for years

Omniwave shockwave for one structure that has stalled

Where a single named structure has been painful for months and has not shifted with hands-on care, Omniwave puts acoustic pressure waves into it through the skin. It is self-pay and it is aimed at one target, not at everything that aches.

The Job Of This Page Is To Get You To The Right One

This page is a starting point rather than a destination. You recognize yourself in a paragraph and move to something more specific. That is the correct outcome, so here is the sorting.

One region you can point to. Read that region's page. A knee, a hip, a shoulder, a neck, a low back each behave differently.

Burning, tingling or numbness rather than ache. A nerve question, and the examination answering it is different.

Pain that followed a collision or a fall. Its own pathway, and timing matters.

Everywhere, and always has been. Widespread pain with fatigue and poor sleep needs a medical work up before anybody adjusts you.

What A First Visit Sorts Out

You arrive with four complaints. Two can turn out to be the same problem, one a compensation that settles once the first is handled, and one a question for a different kind of doctor.

None of that is treatment. It is what makes treatment possible, and arriving without it is the situation this page is written for.

How A Plan Unfolds Around Three Treating Days

The opening block goes to whichever structure is producing the most. Secondary areas follow in order, which is when a multi-site problem either resolves into one clear issue or turns out to need a specialist.

Because this office runs Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, the in-office work sits in that window and the movement work is yours across the rest of the week.

What To Do In The Meantime

Keep moving inside what is comfortable, because long rest stiffens joints and weakens muscle faster at this age. Change position often. Heat for stiffness, ice for a fresh flare.

Walk daily even if it is short. Look at how you sleep, since morning shoulder and hip pain can be made overnight.

See a physician first if the pain followed a significant fall, if weakness in a limb is worsening, or if there is any change in bowel or bladder control.

Cost, Insurance And Medicare

Cost tracks how complicated the problem turns out to be. One stiff joint is not the same piece of work as four sore areas of two years standing.

Chiropractic care bills insurance and our team verifies your benefits first. Shockwave and the wider regenerative line are self-pay, said up front rather than at the desk afterwards. Medicare coverage varies by plan and by service.

New patients start at $47, and payment plans are available for self-pay care.

Who Is Treating You

Dr. Justin Bergin, DC is 22 years into practice and does this evaluation himself at the Lady Lake office.

Shifting or widespread pain is the kind that gets waved through with a general label, and the kind where naming the source changes what comes after it.

What we are near

Where exactly is the Lady Lake office?

The address is 929 US-441 #404, Lady Lake, FL 32159, on North US-441 a short way above the CR 466 intersection, and the suite is 404.

Parking sits right outside on one level, with no stairs and no garage, which matters when several joints are unhappy at once.

Can I get here by golf cart?

Patients do arrive by golf cart, and since the routes through here get altered we do not publish one.

Call and the front desk will take you through the current way in.

Which towns and landmarks sit around this office?

The catchment runs across The Villages and out to Lady Lake, Summerfield, Wildwood, Oxford, Fruitland Park and Leesburg, spanning Sumter, Lake and Marion counties.

Spanish Springs Town Square is the closest of the three squares, Lake Sumter Landing a simple drive and Brownwood Paddock Square the longest trip.

Lake-Sumter State College sits a short drive away at its Leesburg campus and UF Health The Villages Hospital is nearby. We are not affiliated with either.

Our Lady Lake office is a short drive from the Lake-Sumter State College campus in Leesburg, and we serve the same tri-county community. We are not affiliated with the college.

ChiroMed is an independent practice. Naming nearby hospitals, colleges or landmarks describes where we are, not who we are affiliated with. There is no affiliation, partnership or endorsement of any kind.

Patient experience at our Lady Lake office

Do the Lady Lake reviews cover a multi-region workup?

Lady Lake is our second and newer office, and the few reviews it has carry nothing about a multi-region pain workup.

We would rather say so than dress up a Lakeland review as local proof.

What should you judge the first visit on?

Judge the first visit on what you are handed at the end of it: a named source, or an honest referral.

Musculoskeletal Pain in recent research

These sources are independent of this practice and none of them endorses it. They are listed so the reasoning behind the care can be checked rather than taken on trust.

  1. Pain

National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, 2026

The federal hub for what research does and does not support among non-drug approaches to pain, including where the evidence is still thin.

  2. Chronic Pain

MedlinePlus, National Library of Medicine, 2025

The National Library of Medicine overview of chronic pain, useful for understanding why pain can persist after the original injury has healed.

What to expect

Your first visit, step by step

You know the plan and the cost before anything begins.

  1. 01

The whole history, not the headline

Bring the lot: previous surgeries, old injuries, what you were told and by whom. Appointments here are built to be long enough for that, which matters more at 74 than at 40.

  2. 02

    Testing and screening

Movement testing plus orthopedic and neurological screening, with imaging only where it would change the plan. Some people are told that adjusting is not the right answer for them.

  3. 03

    A named source, in writing

The report of findings tells you which complaints are one problem, which are compensations, and which belong with somebody else. That is the deliverable of the first visit.

  4. 04

    The worst problem first

Care starts with whichever structure is producing the most, because a list of four complaints can simplify once the main one quietens. This office treats Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

  5. An adjustment that is not aimed at a specific finding is just noise. We treat what the exam and the X-ray tell us to treat.

The Villages questions

Tap a message for the honest answer. Call The Villages (352) 915-7150

I have four sore areas. Do I have to pick one to talk about?

No, and picking one is how this gets missed. Bring all four. A first visit here is built around sorting them into groups: which are the same problem, which is a compensation that will quieten once the first is handled, and which needs a different kind of doctor. Appointments are long enough for that conversation, which is the main practical difference between this office and a ten minute slot.

the clinic team
Which days can I be seen, and is it the same as your Lakeland office?

Lady Lake treats Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and again 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Tuesday and Friday are by appointment, and this office is closed Saturday and Sunday. That is three treating days a week, and a course of care here is built around them. The two offices do not keep the same week, so check how the Lakeland office sets its own week if that is the one you need. Ask the front desk what is open this week rather than assuming.

the clinic team
Everyone tells me this is just my age. Is it?

Age raises the odds of wear. It does not explain a specific pain in a specific place that behaves in a specific way, and the National Institute on Aging is direct that pain is not a normal part of getting older and that most pain can be managed. If you have been told to live around it, the useful next step is an examination that tries to name the structure rather than the decade.

the clinic team
Do I need a referral before I come in?

Not for an evaluation here. You can book directly with this office. If your plan or your own physician wants a referral in the file, our team will help you sort it out, and nothing about starting care depends on it. Medicare coverage varies by plan and by service, so the front desk will confirm what applies to you before you commit to anything.

the clinic team
What would make you send me somewhere else?

Findings that point away from a mechanical problem. Unexplained weight loss. Fever with spinal pain. Weakness in a limb that keeps getting worse. Any change in bowel or bladder control. Night pain that never varies with position. New pain after a significant fall, which is worth taking seriously at any age. Any of those get a medical assessment first, and you are told so at the first visit rather than after a block of care.
