I already wear a night guard from my dentist. Should I keep wearing it?
Yes, unless your dentist tells you otherwise. The guard is protecting your teeth from the grinding, and nothing done at this office replaces that. Bring it to the first visit so it can be looked at alongside the examination, and keep the dentist who made it. We are treating the muscle and the joint, which is a different half of the same problem.
Do you make guards or adjust my bite at the Lady Lake office?
No. We do not make or fit a night guard, adjust a bite, fit or reline a denture, place an implant, or carry out any dental work whatsoever. Dr. Justin Bergin, DC is a chiropractor. What we treat is the muscular and mechanical layer around the joint, plus the upper neck. Anything involving teeth stays with your dentist or a prosthodontist.
I have dentures. Does that change what you can do?
It changes what we need to know. A denture that has been relined, a partial that has shifted or a recent extraction all alter how the two jaw joints share the load, and that history often explains why the pain started when it did. Tell us at the examination. The denture itself belongs with whoever fitted it, and if the fit looks like the driver you will be sent back to them.
Which days can I be seen in Lady Lake for jaw pain?
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Tuesday and Friday here are by appointment, and this office is closed Saturday and Sunday.
